Walking Therapy
Join me for a restorative wander + talk amongst the trees
Discover the healing element of nature together, as we meet amongst the trees, following the Japanese concept of Shinrin-yoku 森浴
森 shinrin, forest + 浴 yoku, bath.
A process of therapeutic relaxation where one spends time in a forest or natural atmosphere, focusing on sensory engagement to connect with nature
Let the natural world in
Walking in nature therapy works by harnessing the calming and restorative effects of natural surroundings to enhance mental wellbeing. The idea is simple: as you stroll through parks, forests, or along tracks, the rhythmic movement and fresh air stimulate creativity and clear your mind. This tranquil environment allows for introspection and encourages emotional expression, helping to reduce anxiety and stress. Participants often find that the combination of physical activity and nature provides them with new perspectives on their thoughts and feelings, opening the door to personal growth and healing.
What does it entail?
Near my practice in the South Shropshire Hills, an Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), there are many remote spots to walk in. We meet, and see what unfolds as we wander through the trees, reflecting on the bird calls, noticing the turning of the seasons, whilst also talking about whatever might be troubling you in your life.
Being outside of the therapy room enables us to explore how we understand ourselves and others in connection with our environment. It also frees us from the restraints of social pressures, allowing a freer and less inhibited chat.
There are many studies being conducted into the positive effects of walking therapy. I run my sessions longer than the standard 50 minute therapy session. 90 minutes allows us time to get a little lost in the wonder of the natural world, an then find our way back to our cars.
Sessions are £70 for 90 minutes
